2011 To Do

They are fine for other people, but I particularly don't believe in New Year's resolutions for myself. There is nothing particularly magical about the year as a unit of time in terms of personal resolution ... usually a big event is better driver for a resolution, especially now that I am older and the big events are driven by deaths and things like 9/11, the funeral is a good opportunity to reflect on the significance of that person's life and to RESOLVE to honor that person's memory and carry on a particularly positive trait (e.g. endeavoring to be better at educating others after a great teacher dies) ... it might be an overly martial outlook, but I think of a soldier picking up the pack or weapon of a fallen comrade and carrying on the fight ... especially since 9/11, especially since the death of Pat Tillman, especially since so many soldiers have sacrificed so much and there are other pathetic parasites who are complaining about cost or risk of continuing the fight.

For me, years are for To Do lists ... the year-driven To Do list is partly a reflection of the tax year; business operation are necessarily driven by accounting; that means that much about business driven by tax policy and the tax year ... the year-driven To Do list is partly a reflection of traditional approaches to marketing based upon model year paradigms. So a couple of the things on this year's To Do list reflect a desire to change this ... the following list is my Top Ten list of things to do in 2011 ... {NOTE: although it's still very rough, I'm going to publish this this outline now on January 1 ... I won't change the outline, but you should expect that I will come back to edit and refine the individual elements.)

1. Fxrz... fix things, teach other people to fix things, teach others to think for themselves and instead of believing in magic to reverse engineer things, teach people to be self-reliant
2. CloudKernel ... reduce the power of government, push people utilize information and knowledge more collaboratively with better recommendation engine technology, drive more bureaucratic and educational functions of government to the cloud, elect Libertarian candidates to
3. DisruptiveEngine ... build an engine of innovation that disrupts slowly, avoid marketing hype, develop Agile/Scrum based approaches to sustain the continual iterative drive for one small revolution after another
4. SQL.ag ... improve soil quality, develop systems that fully utilize the energy in crop waste
5. PWR.fm ... improve ability to generate and fully utilize the informational / signal quality aspects of power, improve reliability and condition monitoring of things connected to power networks so that we can move toward asset optimization
6. SKTCH ... improve the virtual realm of CAD/CAM/simulation, LEAN mfg is about not wasting resources making products that nobody really wants or needs ... improve ability to prototype, launch and manufacture
7. Funnier.Be ... improve humor, help people to laugh more, help people to take things less seriously
8. Gyg.bz ... improve social recruiting, disrupt the notion of the firm and the need for jobs
9. QiLab.org ... understand and improve meditation and prayer, improve neurological function, try to understand and eliminate neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson's
10. Salebarn ... look for small ways to study commerce and improve reputation-driven thick-value transactions, invest in and develop better auction formats to improve transparency and fairness in markets
